VOCYL was thrilled to have Peter Bourne speak at our meeting on March 27th.  Over 30 youth attended and were able to hear Peter share about his life and passion for inclusion and belonging for people with disabilities.  Peter’s openness regarding his visual and hearing impairments created an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding; he was willing to share his own struggles in order to encourage and inspire the youth.  In addition to his often comedic presentation, Peter sang a song very dear to his heart, “We Shall Overcome”, a protest song that was made popular during the civil rights movement.  “It was inspiring for many of our youth”, said Tracy Lemke, VOCYL Coordinator.  “For them to see a person that has overcome many obstacles in life, with a huge smile on his face and a joy for living, was extremely powerful and encouraging.”
