Issues & Trends from the Executive Director
The CLV Foundation was pleased to host another successful concert on November 15th at the McPherson Playhouse. Ria Mae provided a wonderful night of entertainment for our 13th annual concert for HOPE HELP HOME. Our thanks goes to all of our concert sponsors and volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you.
We are in the third year of our strategic plan and have accomplished many of our objectives, one of which was working towards providing more affordable housing options. With seed funding from CMHC to further explore the feasibility of a mixed housing development on our Cedar Hill Cross Road property and a grant from Vancity, we are on our way. Our goal is to submit a rezoning application to Saanich in early spring. This is an exciting project that will have a positive impact on the community.
In December, the Satellite Community Inclusion program and the Host & Home Share team held an open house at our new Comerford location. This spacious and accessible building will meet our needs well into the future.
Also in December we held our annual seasonal celebration which provided an opportunity to thank our Board, staff, contractors and supporters who all contribute to making Community Living Victoria such a wonderful agency.
Through our fundraising ventures – Our Reach for the Stars direct mail campaign, the Tricia Fund and the 50/ 50 employee campaign- we have been able to distribute $7000 this holiday season which ensured that the children, youth and adults we support enjoyed some festive activities and provided much needed items for those living in poverty.
We are excited to have received funding from the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty, along with 9 other agencies across the province, to launch a program focused on youth employment. We will be working with 3 schools in the Victoria School District to identify 10 youth each year for the next 3 years. This is a research based project that will inform best practice and provide evidence about the need for ongoing funding for youth employment services.
Our 6th CARF survey will be conducted in the spring of 2020 and we are preparing for that event. Continuous quality improvement is ongoing and we encourage you to check out the Measurable Outcomes 2018 report on our website. This document describes the detailed process of ensuring our programs and services meet all CARF standards and how those results make a difference to the people we support.
Thank you to all our supporters and sponsors. Together we make a difference.
