VOCYL receives Volunteers of the Year Award from CLV

June 7, 2016

The VOCYL youth were presented with the “Volunteers of the Year” award by Community Living Victoria on May 18th at the Annual General Meeting.

Members were honored for their commitment to sharing the message of inclusion and belonging for everyone. VOCYL ‘s motto – everyone has the right to belong – inspired VOCYL members to go above and beyond this year with the delivery of over 45 inclusion awareness presentations which reached over 300 grade six middle school students. During these presentations, they challenged students to make their classrooms and schools more welcoming and inclusive for anyone that might have a barrier to belonging. VOCYL members have also organized and hosted inclusive community events and activities such as the VOCYL Art Auction, a Valentines Outreach to a local shelter, a retreat at Camp Pringle, and a teambuilding day.

This past year, VOCYL youth honed their leadership and public speaking by participating in teaching components within the program that equip them to share the powerful message of inclusion and belonging for everyone in our community.

Their hard work has paid off! Great job VOCYL!
